Mod.2 - Assignment 2: Get your RSS News Aggregator

Since RSS is a great way to get information quickly, and is beginning
to be integrated in cutting-edge distance learning courses as a way to
provide students with dynamic news information, course information, or
integrated links to student blogs, I downloaded the aggtegator, Blogbridge application, to begin this assignment.

Blogbridge is a Java application I downloaded for free to complete this assignment.

Mod 2- Syndicated Feeds (RSS & Atom)

Our readings for this module included several articles on RSS feeds. Once reading was completed, we took a Syndication Quiz, Assignment 1.
Next, Assignment 2, Members’ graciously assisted those who still were not sure of the value in RSS. Many of the reading assignments even had difficulty providing clarity on this simple, yet complex technology for the digital age. Maybe because it WWW2 “is” a new concept to embrace from the WWW, we struggle to see the value in it. Once we realize we are filtering information we really want to read on-line versus having to opening several different sites, then perusing through a lot of information to get to what we are most interested? Well, guess it is kinda’ like less is more. Less sites but more on needs and needed information. I can determine what it is I want based on subscribe to it versus being bombarded by information I do not need or want. Old computer phrase applies here…GOGI (garbage out-garbage in)
Is it good for the classroom? Hmm, it encourages students to write digitally, which is definitely different from traditionally written papers. Collaborate more electronically, readily share new found information, interact with comments, and track discussions and specific topics. Hmmm, sounds like a very dynamic tool for inquiring minds. In addition, can be student-centric where as students is taking ownership of their own learning. Wow. Where do I sign up? Get an RRS Aggregator? You bet…
